Don, an Oregon native, graduated summa cum laude with highest honors from Williams College; received his law degree from the University of Chicago; and after clerking for two judges at the federal appellate level in Washington, DC, earned a masters-in-taxation degree from Georgetown University.

Don spent 23 years in private legal practice and in 2000, Don left private practice to join the corporate world as VP of Corporate Development and Chief Legal Officer at Wine.com. He since has served as an executive officer, interim executive officer, and consultant to executives in numerous companies and industries. He lectures on advanced business negotiation with CEO peer groups, corporate, trade and professional associations, as well as with dispute resolution professionals.
